Good morning

There is a long and unbroken tradition in our country of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons and Erewash has been taking part since 2002 by lighting beacons for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth's Golden and Diamond Jubilees as well as her 90th Birthday.

As you will be aware the Platinum Jubilee celebrations commence on Thursday, 2 June and I am writing to let you know that we have joined the national Beacon Lighting event commencing at 8.15pm. Details for the evening are given below and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be delighted if you were able to join them on this occasion. There will be limited chairs available so you may wish to bring your own.

The MC to run through proceedings and welcome everyone. Hand held flags will be distributed to attendees

Ilkeston - Johnny Victory to sing songs from the 50's (when the Queen ascended to the Throne) and patriotic tunes until 9.25pm

Long Eaton – Long Eaton Silver Prize Band, along with the Choir of the United Reformed Church, will play patriotic tunes until 9.25pm

Welcome and thanks by the Mayor, Councillor John Sewell (Long Eaton) and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Chris Corbett (Ilkeston)

Pipers will play 'Diu Regnare', a unique tune specially written by Piper Major, Stuart Liddell to mark the occasion

Buglers will officially announce the lighting of the Beacon with a specially written bugle call entitled 'Majesty'

The Beacons will be lit to coincide with the playing of the 'Song for the Commonwealth' which has been written and composed by Lucy Keily from Australia and Vincent Atueyi Chinemelu from Nigeria

The event will close with the National Anthem
